This week, the children wanted to go someplace adventurous, and they had decided on the mighty
It wasn’t so easy to persuade Blue Fairy though. When she visited the children in the night, and heard that they wanted to go to the Amazon, she was worried.
“Amazon is a huge river, you know”, she said.” It’s easy to get lost. The mouth of the river is so wide..”
Before the fairy could finish the sentence, Sid gasped, “River has a mouth!! What would a river eat??”
“Silly”, said Joy. “The place where a river meets the sea is called its’ mouth.”
But the blue Fairy didn’t pay any attention to that. She kept on saying, “The Amazon rainforests hosts a mind-boggling variety of plant and animal lives. If we got stuck..”
Sid cut in the Fairy’s sentence again, “Rainforest? That is a great idea. We’ve been to so many places, but never a forest.”
Both the boys got so excited that they paid little attention to the fairy’s objections. They would have flied without the fairy if they could! Seeing their enthusiasm, the fairy reluctantly took the kids and flew all the way to South America, where the great
The children could not believe their own eyes!! Amazon was wider and mightier than their wildest imaginations. In fact, it was so wide; it hardly looked like a river. At many places, the banks of the river were not visible at all, and it resembled a mini-sea!
The deep waters of Amazon seemed to call them. Excited, Joy took a deep breath, and dived into the mighty River! Sid stayed in the air, amused and clapping. But the Fairy turned white with terror. Joy had jumped into the river without knowing about its perils, and it was now up to her to rescue him.
There weren’t many options. She dived in right behind Joy, and brought him back to the river-bank for a grand scolding!!
“Do you realize what you just did?? The Amazon is a river full of species we don’t even know about. But we do know about the Piranhas and the Anacondas. Do you want to become their breakfast?” She yelled, furious. As she fluttered her wet wings, her eyes caught Sid, who was about to eat a fruit he plucked from a tree on the river-bank.
“Stop!!!” she screamed, and ran at an unbelievable speed to snatch the fruit out of Sid’s hands. She managed to do that just in the nick of the time.
“Do you know what is it??” she demanded. Sid said no, wondering why she was making so much of a fuss about a fruit!
“It can be poisonous. The Amazon rainforest has so many types of trees and plants, even scientists don’t know about all of them.”
The trip wasn’t much fun. The Blue Fairy was so scared of all the known and unknown dangers of the thick rainforests, that she did not let the boys roam around much. Soon, they were back in their homes, rather grumpy.
“I’m sorry kids”, said the Fairy. “But I can’t take chances with your safety.”
The boys were still dissatisfied. They only agreed to smile when the fairy promised to take them to
