Joy and Sid waited for Blue Fairy to come. Both of them had slept with a piece of paper in their hands. When the fairy arrived, the children ran towards her, still holding the paper. Curious, the fairy asked them what it was.
“Well, we could not decide on what next to see: Sid wants to see the world’s tallest building, and I want to see the highest mountain. So we have written our choices on a paper for you to pick from.” Joy told.
“I would hate to disappoint any of you. Friends should always try to come to an agreement. Maybe you both can decide where to go together next week. Till then, however, I will decide the destination.” Said the Blue Fairy.
The kids had no choice but to agree. But they did ask the fairy to take them to some place far away, and the fairy agreed.
The fairy told them she’s going to an ancient building, so wonderful that even the tallest skyscraper is no match to its’ enigma.
On their way, the kids spotted a river flowing down. The river was very long, in fact there seemed no end to it. The blue Fairy informed them that it was the river
“Oh!! It must be
“Are you taking us to the great Pyramids?” Sid asked, guessing quite correctly.
The Fairy was rather impressed with their knowledge. “Maybe they are growing up big, and I should stop visiting them” she thought in her mind.
Soon, they reached
“This is not a pyramid!” he said to the Fairy. “What is it?”
“It is Sphinx”, the fairy said. “It is supposed to guard the pyramids.”
Joy, eager to impress the Blue Fairy, added, “I know that pyramids are actually tombs for the Egyptian kings, called Pharaohs. Their bodies were kept in the pyramids with a lot of riches and treasures. Isn’t it, Blue Fairy?”
The Fairy nodded sadly. She was sad, because it meant that Joy and Sid were no longer small children if they knew so much. It also meant that she will soon have to stop visiting them. She was sad because she had also started to like her trips with the boys, and always looked forward to them.
As the Fairy looked the other side to wipe her tears away, she noticed Sid crying too!! In fact, he was wailing. Alarmed, the fairy went to him and asked him what the matter was.
“I had seen the picture of pyramids earlier”, he sobbed. “I thought it would be fun to slide down from its top. It would be like a big slide. But these pyramids don’t have smooth walls or edges. They are stony, hard and stepped. How can I slide on them!! It is no fun! It’s a useless trip.”
Silly as Sids’ complaint was, it made the Blue Fairy extremely happy. It meant that the boys were still young, and fun was still more important than anything else!! It meant she can keep taking her little explorers around the world for a long time to come!
Pleased, the fairy took the boys back home with promises of many more voyages to come.
