Joy in Italy.

Joy and Sid, the inseparable duo had been separated a lot this week. Joy’s sprained ankle turned out to be a hairline fracture, and doctors instructed him to take bed rest for some time. So Sid had to go to school and play all alone. But he did make sure to spend a lot of time by Joy’s bedside. It was a welcome break for Joy, and the boys chatted their time away discussing all their previous voyages, and drawing up a list of all the places they’d like to visit. Soon, the week passed by, and the kids were ready for their next trip to the historical country of Italy.

“Italy?”, the Blue Fairy was taken quite by surprise. But soon, she realized the rationale behind this choice. Italy was home to some of the most recognized structures in the world- The Colosseum in Rome and the Leaning tower of Pisa among others.

As the trio flew to Italy, the Blue Fairy asked them if they should stop at the leaning tower of Pisa first.

“Nah!!” said the boys. “We are not interested in a tower that can’t even stand straight.”

“Then shall we go to the Colosseum directly?” enquired the Fairy, for now the ruined, but magnificent circular amphitheater was clearly in view.

“What’s there to see in a broken stadium?” replied the boys in tandem.

By now, the Fairy realized that they were not much interested in the great and eventful history that Italy is proud of. Maybe they wanted to visit Italy for visiting another country!

“Vatican city”, she exclaimed. “The smallest country in the world, surrounded completely by Rome! Sure you guys want to go there.”

The boys exchanged casual glances, uninterested – bored maybe, with the fairys’ constant suggestions. They had something specific in mind that they had not shared with the Fairy till now. But now they had to spill the beans…

They told the fairy about Joy’s fracture and the doctors’ instruction. The Fairy had no idea till now! “You shouldn’t be walking, much less flying!” she shouted. “Both of you should have told this to me at the start.”

She was furious that the boys tricked her into an escape that wasn’t allowed. “Now that you are in Italy, what do you plan to do? You can’t walk or climb in any case!!” She demanded.

“We came here”, said the boys, nervous and anxious, “for a pizza.”

That brought a smile to the Fairy’s kind face. She took them to a big diner, and they gorged on authentic Italian Pizza, right in the middle of Italy.
